nd Grade - Students will be introduced to plant parts and germination requirements through corn and soybean production on farms. We will discuss the different lifecycles that both plants and animals go through on the farm and how they are connected in feed as well! Students will dissect a bean seed and they will create an individual greenhouse to watch their own bean plant grow!
rd Grade - Cheeseburgers and farming...how are they connected? Connecting food to the farm can be difficult for consumers! 3rd graders will see if they can match the raw products that were used to make the food they see at the grocery store. They will focus on the cheeseburger, learning about both crop and livestock production as they learn about how the cheeseburger was made possible by farmers, processing factories, trucks, and grocery stores. We will also play a game to see what they learned by matching grocery store items they know to what farmers grow to make it all possible!
th Grade - From MOO to You! Students will learn about products farm animals produce and the steps in getting those products from the farm to our home. Students will learn and sample dairy products and learn about the processing of milk into cheese and get to make butter in the classroom!
th Grade - Let's learn how livestock are related to everyday products they consume and use from animals are far more than they realize! We will focus on terminology used to describe livestock, how different species are raised for meat, fiber, and talk about animal by-products that are created from animals.
th Grade - Nutrition is important to every person, and it is also important to livestock. Students will learn about how cows eat different ingredients to meet their needs nutritionally, just as humans follow the "my plate" recommendations of the USDA to be healthy. Students will observe many different rations that we feed our calves, heifers, lactating cows, and dry cows. Students will make a "Total Mixed Ration" human snack and compare it to livestock nutrition.
